Banks are going down the drain a dime a dozen. Before opening a checking account or savings account it is wise to first look into your bank’s history. Here you will learn how to check a bank’s credit rating. Although the FDIC does not release their ratings to the public, they do recommend several sites that consumers can use to check for a bank’s credit rating. These steps will tell you how to check for a bank's credit rating.

First you will need to vist Bankrate.com there you will look for Safe & Sound ratings link which is www.bankrate.com/brm/safesound/ss_home.asp

Select the financial institution that you are researching, then click the "Next" button to continue.

Enter the search options to locate your financial institution. Then Click "Next" after selecting your search option.

Choose your bank from the list of financial institutions provided in the drop-down menu and click on "Next."

Next select and review the bank report or financial summary on your bank then click on "Next." From here you will be able to view financial reports and credit rating in regards to your bank.
