Go through your summer clothes from previous years and take an inventory of what you need and what you need to replace. Get rid of articles of clothing that you realistically do not plan on wearing due to style change or are just worn out or stained. Here are some suggestions to clean out your drawers and closets:

* Toss white tees and tanks that have those wretched under arm stains.

* Toss any items that look worn or where the cotton started to ball up from over drying.

* Relocate shirts that have the year written on it, such as to use that “2007 Brand Name” T shirt for a night shirt or gym shirt.

* Toss clothes that DO NOT FIT. If they still are in good condition, give them to a friend or donate them to a legitimate charity such as the Salvation Army.

Make sure your wardrobe includes a balance of casual clothing for daytime and formal clothing for evening. Every woman needs a few summer essentials. These are:

* Tee Shirts, either solid colors or graphic

* Tanks to wear alone or layer under low cut tops.

* An array of skirts. Length is optional considering that all lengths and cuts can be found in almost any clothing store.

* Capris: Denim and cargo

* Cotton dresses for those really hot and humid days.

* Black slacks and black capris

* A few sexy tank tops and blouses for a Saturday night out with your man or the girls.

A new year deserves a new bathing suit. Purchase a bathing suit that flatters your body. One piece suits are very fashionable and trendy now. As for the popular bikini, make sure you buy the correct size and cut for your body type. Try to buy from stores that sell bikini separates. This is because your top and bottom may be completely different sizes. You may need a small top but a medium bottom. You may have a larger top but have a very petite lower body. If you buy the set of the same size you are taking the risk that not both parts will fit right. In addition to the bathing suit, you need to have the right cover up. Sheer fabrics and the “towel” material work the best. They are very versatile. These types of cover-ups can take you from the beach to lunch at your favorite beachside restaurant.

Shoes, Shoes, Shoes: It’s not realistic to tell a woman that she only needs three pairs of shoes. Here are a list of must have styles for the summer.

* Basic flip flops in 3 basic colors: white, black, and brown (Old Navy, 2 for $5.00) Jeweled fancy flip flops are pretty for work and dates, but I wouldn’t recommend them for the beach.

* 2 pairs of wedged sandals: Black and nude **Wedged sandals are a lot more comfortable than heels because they weight of your body is shifted differently.

* The classic black pump

* A pair of sneakers for those summer walks (Air Max 90’s are extremely comfortable and looks great on any size foot)

Every woman needs accessories to complete her summer look. The following are a list of add-ons that would look great with every outfit:

* Sunglasses. Find the right size and color for your face. The movie star look doesn’t work for everyone. It barely works for them!

* Handbag: Invest in a handbag with color. Black handbags are great for the winter, as for summer, lets brighten it up a little.

* Costume jewelry: Necklaces, earrings, and bracelets, OH MY! Put it on and show it off. (New York and Co. has great costume Jewelry at great prices)

* Manicure and Pedicure. Try to get a manicure every week and pedicure every two weeks.

* Looking healthy with a glow. Get a spray tan or a do-it-yourself tanner. (In my opinion, Jergens works the best)

* Before anything else, use sunscreen daily. Use it on your face, on your neck, on your body, on your feet. Use it everywhere and don’t forget. Even if you have dark skin, use sunscreen. The sun doesn’t discriminate. Just because you can’t see a sunburn doesn’t mean it didn’t happen!
