Whether from your pet or from you or a family member, it is important to promptly and properly remove ticks to reduce the risk of infection or illness.
1
Look for ticks after a walk in brush or wooded areas during warm weather.
2
Check vulnerable areas since ticks seek warm areas. On dogs and cats they are often on the neck, near or in the ears, or on the face.
3
Use tweezers and grasp the tick as close to the skin as possible, trying to get the head of the tick. Pull straight out.
4
Put the tick in alcohol to kill it. Treat the tick bite with neosporin.
5
Watch the bite area for redness, swelling, bumps, or signs of infection.
