An important command to teach your dog or puppy if you don't want to wrestle him for your favorite shoe, glove, or your child's pet guinea pig!
1
When your dog picks up something in its mouth that you want to get back, DO NOT grab the object and pull.
2
Say, "Drop it" in a firm, low voice and take the dog by the collar. You may pull back or up slightly and usually the dog will drop what is in its mouth. When it drops it, repeat "drop it" and praise the dog.

Repetition and consistency works as well, or better, with dogs than with children. It will take many repetitions for a puppy to make the connections between the words and the action. More frequent practice helps.
