Smelly and a health hazard, cat urine must be cleaned up thoroughly to keep your cat from returning to the same area to commit the offense over and over.
1
Blot the wet area well with an absorbant cloth or paper towels. Press firmly and soak up as much as possible. If the area has already dried, rewet it with a small amount of water or spray it with water and blot.
2
Use a cleaner formulated for cleaning pet urine that contains enzymes that can actually eliminate the odor and stain rather than masking it. If you use a scented cleaner, citrus scents are best because cats generally hate citrus smells.
3
Spray the stain thoroughly and then blot again. Use a clean, dry cloth or paper towels and don't rub.
4
Repeat the cleaning if you still notice odor or stain. It is important to eliminate the cat's odor to keep it from returning to the spot. Again, a citrus or vinegar scent can be used to repel the cat.
