I just bought a Craig MP4 Player (model CMP621F) & downloaded songs. When trying to listen to the player, it said that there was a playback error. Please help!

I have a Sylvania LD155SC8 HD TV that is 1 yr old. The screen has recently converted to showing everything in wide screen mode so there is a black area above and below the actual picture preventing my husband from seeing scores & stats on his precious football games. Now he is talking about getting a new TV but I think there is some way to fix this. Have tried everything manual said. Help!
